Too Giddy For Mayweather-Mosley (GO MOSLEY!)

Mayweather-Mosley is now less than a month’s away from happening and honestly, I cannot make a concrete prediction on who can be the victor on May 1st. Floyd Mayweather, 40-0, 25 KOs, is a slick defensive genius who is pretty efficient with defense and pops an effective punch or two on the counter. On the opposite corner, you have Sugar Shane Mosley, who at 38 years old, boasts of a fine, impressive record of 46-5, 39 KOs, and prefers an all-out action throughout the fight.

It is quite understandable why many pick Mayweather to win this fight, owing to a number of facts: 1) the guy is one of the most skilled fighter today; 2) his defense wizardry has not yet been broken down; 3) he is the younger guy.

On the other hand, you have Shane Mosley, who is clearly at the twilight of his career. That said, let me remind you that this is the fighter who obliterated then the much feared Antonio Margarito over a year ago. Mosley, despite his advanced age, is still a force to reckon with when it comes to the welterweight division. There is a reason why he is still the lineal champion of the division.

I hope for a Mosley win since that would almost guarantee a Pacquiao-Mosley showdown, which to me, is a better matchup since both men love action. A Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown may seem good on paper, but Mayweather, as lauded as he is, will not engage the champion as Mosley would possibly do.

We all saw what Clottey did when he fought Pacquiao. Mayweather may ought to play defense all night long as well. The only good thing about that fight is that Clottey did not run.

And despite calls from Pac fans to boycott the Mayweather-Mosley fight, I, for one, will certainly watch how the fight will unfold. Aside from that, I want to see if Mosley is up to the task of beating Mayweather and call out Pacquiao for what could probably his last fight before he hangs up the gloves.

Science of Fights

I am also gunning for Mosley on this one.

Who has Floyd fought that you can consider as a true welterweight contender?

Hatton? Judah? Baldomir?

This is definitely a true test of his style. Mosley is tough, still quick, and has loads of experience behind him... hope Shane has enough gas tank to go with it!

I agree. The last time Mayweather fought a welterweight (on paper, at least), was way back against Carlos Baldomir. I don't even see the logic why the powers that be lister Mayweather as the #2 welterweight when he hasn't fought any welterweight for the last four years.
