Holyfield-Botha: Both Should Really Consider Retirement

I have said this once and I won’t be stopping there – Evander Holyfield needs to retire. There is no point for boxers his stature to go on and fight for the sake of glory when they basked in it during the pinnacle of their career. Of course, it is quite understandable that the Real Deal wants to retire with a world champion belt in his waist. Who doesn’t want to go out in the blaze of glory?

But for those who are not quite familiar with what he and Francois Botha will be fighting for would be the WBF heavyweight championship strap. For casual boxing fans, WBF would sound alien, unlike the WBO, WBC, IBF, WBA, and lesser known boxing institutions the IBO and IBA. WBF, or World Boxing Foundation, does not hold any glam to any degree at all.

It is quite difficult to fathom why would a boxing legend and future Hall-of-Famer like Holyfield would risk another loss to his already muddied career in search for another championship belt that do not spell prestige as much as its more visible counterparts. This is very much well past common sense and logic.

Holyfield needs to retire. And the same goes for Botha as well.
